Underground Low Voltage Motor Starter Page
While we provide motor starters for Across-the-Line, DC, and variable-fill fluid-couplings, the overwhelming majority of Underground Motor Starters are for AC Drives (VFDs). Input voltages range from 380-4160 VAC with one to four motors ranging from 100-2500 HP.
Low voltage (380-690 VAC) motor starters can be either in an integrated or modular format. The selection of AC Drive in most cases will determine the style of controller that is used.
An integrated motor controller contains all the power and controls components housed in one single enclosure. Installation of this style of enclosure simply requires one to four power sources and one to four sets of motor leads, along with the wiring for safeties and interlocks located outside the enclosure. A PLC, HMI, and other control devices are located in a section separate from the power section.
The modular design houses all the power components for one AC Drive and motor into one enclosure. One to four of the Power Modules is used to the match the number of motors. The PLC, HMI, and other control devices are located in a separate enclosure, typically called a Control Module. Interconnections between the Power Modules and Control Module can be via a network or hard-wired.
